Welcome to Mountain Brook Farm
Mountain Brook Farm can be found nestled in the foothills of Western Maine with a spectacular view of Mount Washington. Our homestead has been a working farm since 1830, and became home to our first three huacaya alpacas in 1995. Today, our growing herd consists of 40-45 quality alpacas, predominately Peruvian, from diverse bloodlines. Exceptional lineage include Royal Fawn, Peruvian Legacy, Peruvian Inca, & Wira Cocha.
Alpaca farming has been a wonderful business and family project for 11 years. We find alpacas to be gentle, curious creatures with very distinct personalities. Their neat nature makes pen and pasture maintenance easy. They are efficient grazers and can be fed for a fraction of the cost of most other livestock. Their two products, fiber and offspring are harvested without slaughter. Alpacas respect a fence and are not difficult to keep confined. Alpaca farming can provide a higher profit margin then other agricultural products.
Our vision of the perfect alpaca includes excellent health and reproductive capabilities, correct conformation with no inheritable anomalies and the abundance of exceptionally fine fiber. We are seeing improvements with each new generation as the result of careful breeding selections. We look forward to our continued growth as an individual farm and the growth of the national industry.
